Density

Downtown Toronto has been in a residential construction boom for quite a number of years.  As a long time Toronto resident, I've been a witness to the continuously increasing density.  The Toronto skyline has changed a great deal over the last decade and despite suggestions that a construction down turn is coming, there are yet to be any signs of it.

If only our city council was stronger in its urban planning efforts to ensure that the density growth was managed in a efficient and thoughtful way, we could take this opportunity to create new communities and enhance existing ones.

Diversity

One of the things I love about Toronto is just how diverse the city is, even its downtown core.  We have a mix of buildings zoned for residential, retail, as well as commercial use.  I think that variety makes the city quite lively and allows Toronto to not suffer the urban desert that occurs in so many other large cities after 5pm.

Good Morning T.O.

Despite its size, our city is so very quiet on some mornings.

Ready to Launch

I've always thought that Roy Thomson Hall could double as an urban missile silo.  While normally the notion of Canadians bearing arms would be quite outrageous,  maybe after this weekend's shooting at the Eaton Centre Mall... not so much?

If you look upwards at night, would you happen to see the rooftoppers in flight amongst the skyscrapers?

RoofTop Gear

If you have ever watched the BBC's Top Gear you may be familiar with the opening credits of that show, which feature silhouettes of the three co-hosts. I can't help but be reminded of that every time I have a look at this image. Maybe it's further enhanced by my experiences with the hilarity that inevitably ensues when these 3 fine gentlemen get together...

Heading Downtown

The golden evening hour sometimes yields colours that are unexpected and almost unnatural. Living in Toronto, we aren't used to seeing this much blue in the sky and water; instead, these are colours we are accustomed to seeing in exotic faraway locations. Yet, on this particular night as the sun set these are the colours that we were privy to.
